Like thousands of hopeful Americans, they traveled west during the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ePike’s Peak Gold Rush of 1859\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, believing Colorado’s mountains held the promise of a better future.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGold, however, was not waiting for them.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAfter months of searching, they accepted that mining would never provide the life they had imagined. Instead, they built a modest farm outside the growing city of Denver, where perseverance—not gold—became the family’s greatest treasure.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGrowing up beneath Colorado’s endless skies, Everette developed a love for the outdoors.
