Everett’s Story

Chapter One – A Colorado Beginning

Everette was born at Denver City Hospital in Denver, Colorado, on April 18, 1891. He was the second-generation son of hardworking farmers.

His grandparents had left Kansas after years of drought and devastating swarms of grasshoppers destroyed their crops. Like thousands of hopeful Americans, they traveled west during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush of 1859, believing Colorado’s mountains held the promise of a better future.

Gold, however, was not waiting for them.

After months of searching, they accepted that mining would never provide the life they had imagined. Instead, they built a modest farm outside the growing city of Denver, where perseverance—not gold—became the family’s greatest treasure.

Growing up beneath Colorado’s endless skies, Everette developed a love for the outdoors. He spent his childhood exploring creeks, climbing hills, and watching hawks circle high above the Rocky Mountains.
